I was so excited this morning to wake and realise that our beautiful Cymbidium Orchid was flowering from our Staghorn Fern! This is a treat that only happens once a year and every time the beauty in the structure of these orchids amazes me!
Orchids are some of the most beautiful flowers mother nature can offer. There are about 30,000 species of orchids in the wild, and more than 100,000 registered hybrids - their structure and colours are always so intriguing - they are also very versatile when looked after well they can last up to 4 weeks as a cut stem!
So how do you care for your orchids, cut stems & potted flowers? This is a question we get asked quite often so we thought we would share some tips & tricks about caring for your orchids.
For cut stems, keep the water clean & fresh remembering to trim the stem regularly! Keeping in mind the climate for your orchids is also important. Our featured orchid the Cymbidium thrives in colder conditions so keeping these away from direct heat is perfect!
For potted orchids, it is important to give them ample water, however allowing the roots to dry out in-between waters its a MUST! Allowing air flow around the base of the root system is going to help this drying out process allowing the orchid to be ready for a fresh watering!
